Halloween Celebrity Wins Best Costume of the Year 2013

Add caption
Oct. 31 may have come and gone, but the Halloween festivities aren't over yet! This year's holiday yielded some truly inspired celebrity costumes, from Kelly Ripa as Miley Cyrus to Matt Lauer as Pamela Anderson. Now, as the world's collective sugar high wears off and Hollywood gets back to business, Us Weekly wants to know: Which star won Halloween with the best costume of the year?

The most costumes of the year definitely goes to Ripa, who --along with co-host Michael Strahan -- rocked more than a dozen getups during Live With Kelly and Michael's one-hour episode on Thursday, Oct. 31, aptly touted as Live's Best Halloween Show Ever. Among the petite blonde's best looks was a near-identical replica of Miley Cyrus' MTV Video Music Awards outfit: a gray teddy bear leotard over a nude latex bra and hot pants set.

(Ripa and Strahan also paid homage to several other celebs and pop culture phenomena, including Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Kate Middleton and Prince George, Lindsey Vonn and Tiger Woods, the cast of Duck Dynasty, and Breaking Bad's Jesse Pinkman and Walter White.)

Elsewhere in daytime talk shows, Matt Lauer stole the spotlight from his Today show co-hosts with a hilarious take on the classic TV show theme. Bravely baring his legs in a high-cut red swimsuit, which he paired with a platinum blonde wig, the 55-year-old veteran anchor channeled Pamela Anderson's Baywatch character, C.J. Parker. (He even did a slow-motion run through the sand!)

Heidi Klum got in on the action, too. In recent years, the supermodel and Project Runway host has become famous for her elaborate, show-stopping Halloween costumes and annual Oct. 31 bash. (This year's was held at New York City hotspot Marquee.)

After teasing fans with photos of her in the makeup chair before her big party, Klum revealed her 2013 getup. Thanks to a team of makeup artists, she completely transformed herself into an old lady, with ultra-realistic wrinkles, white hair, and a cane.

Last, but certainly not least, is Ellen DeGeneres. For her Halloween episode on Oct. 31, the comedienne went as a scantily clad Nicki Minaj, complete with a long blonde wig and bubblegum pink lipstick. She copied the exact outfit the rapper wore on her show back in September: black leather pants, a gold chain belt, and a cropped black cardigan left mostly unbuttoned to expose her massive cleavage.

Jakarta Fashion Week 2014 Conceptual Shows

www.cheap-flight-4u.com

Jakarta, Indonesia, Oct 26, 2013
The sixth Jakarta Fashion Week closed late Friday night October 25th with a triumph as several of Indonesia's top young designers showcased some of the most conceptual looks presented in the event's runaway. Leading fashion magazine Dewi held its annual Dewi Fashion Knights whereby it awarded the best designers for the year.

This year the "knights" were Oscar Lawalatta, Priyo Oktaviano, Tex Saverio and two newcomers: Toton Yanuar and Populo Batik. Of these five, Priyo and Tex were the most conceptual, showing breathtaking creativity and impeccable executions. In contrast, Oscar and Populo presented very wearable - but highly desirable - designs. Toton, the youngest of the five, showed much potential and a knack for tailoring as evidenced in his white shirts. But he clearly needs to edit his collection tighter as one gets the impression that he is presently undecided between the two poles of "conceptual" or "wearable" fashions.

Earlier in the day, the grand dame of Indonesian fashion, Obin aka Josephine Komara, presented her creations, the result of a seriously impeccable (and therefore slow) process of design and production between the years of 2004 and 2011. There were about 100 pieces of cloth and apparel that created 48 looks in the show. Woven cloth (tenun) and batik dominated the collection, but the highlights were clearly the batik on cashmere. Every single item presented was hand-made and the production process involved around 1000 artisans, Obin said in the press conference.

The previous day the highlight was the show featuring a cultural dialogue between South Korea and Indonesia. South Korean designer Kaal E. Suktae presented an impeccable collection including four looks using traditional Indonesian fabrics supplied by small producers. From Indonesia, young designer Albert Yanuar presented a breathtaking collection using fabrics supplied by the South Koreans, designed by senior designer Li Sang Bong.

This year, Jakarta Fashion Week 2014 is supported by Bank Mandiri, Senayan City, L'Oreal Professionnel, The Body Shop, Matahari Department Store, Bellini, Juara Skincare, Mazda Motor Indonesia, 5aSec, You C Vitamin Water, Tiger Air Mandala, Acer, and C's Nail Academy.

About Jakarta Fashion Week
Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW) is held annually and aims to provide direction to the Indonesian fashion industry as well as a vehicle to demonstrate its wealth in talents and creativity. Ultimately, the goal is to turn Jakarta into a major fashion hub in the region and the world. The sixth Jakarta Fashion Week will be held October 19th-25th at the Senayan City shopping mall in Jakarta in collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Ministry of Trade, the Municipal Government of Jakarta, and major stakeholders of the fashion industry as well as the media. More than 200 of Indonesia's leading designers will partake in the event. Many of them will present collections inspired by the country's rich heritage in different types of traditional fabrics while simultaneously keep their eyes on the present and future. The JFW is organized by event management company Azura Activation , part of the publishing company Femina Group, which since its founding in 1971 has been active in promoting the Indonesian fashion industry through various editorial initiatives as well as events.

Vogue-Mulberry Fashion's Night in Manchester

"There has been such a party atmosphere - it's literally been heaving with people and activity and there have been hundreds of people walking around with shopping bags which is great - they've actually been shopping," says Shulman. "The thing about Manchester is that there are lots of little different areas that are their own little fashion centres - from Spinningfields to King's Street to Exchange Square - and it's been really obvious that people have wanted to enjoy themselves. They have really dressed up - the temperature dropped today, but people aren't muffled up - it's been all about statement shoes, shorts with black tights and great metallic sequined jackets. I've seen a lot of those."

Wherever Fashion's Night Out lands next,Vogue-On-Tour is clearly a winning formula. "It's been a wonderful experience - it's really the first time we've takenVogueen masse out of the capital, and it makes me feel it would be nice to do it more often. It's been really fabulous."

Nicki Minaj with Pink Car

Creative Expression

 http://www.cheap-flight-4u.com
Add caption
Let's start by saying this creative expression has nothing to do with breast cancer awareness month or any other moral cause. No, rapper Nicki Minaj painted her $400,000 Lamborghini Aventador (and its Forgiato wheels) her trademark shade of pink because it's, like, totally blazin', or something — and it goes with her pink Bentley and pink Range Rover.

Note to self: Never, ever sell a car to Nicki Minaj. Unless you want it comprehensively ruined.

Minaj debuted the PeptoBismol-ador earlier this week during the launch of her eponymous clothing line for Kmart. And there's certainly something fashionable about the the angry angles of the 700-hp Aventador, which have become a favorite among celebrity car customizers from Chris Brown to Kanye West, let alone the glow-in-the-dark variation seized by London police earlier this year.

But the real question here is: Why would anyone do this? I know from personal experience about the attention driving a pink car in public settings can bring; it's not for the faint of heart or for those who care strongly about the opinions of others. Minaj's own lyrics might answer the "why would you" question best:

"I am Nicki Minaj, I mack them dudes up. Back coupes up and chuck the deuce up."

Perhaps painting her cars pink has helped court the gentlemen? And I have no idea what that second line means.

Men's Style Hermes

http://www.cheap-flight-4u.com
Add caption

Hermes,  It could be seen as churlish to level an accusation of dullness against a presentation that paraded a black crocodile biker jacket or a black leather suit down its catwalk, but Veronique Nichanian's consistent delivery of sharp, subtle, sexy menswear collections under the Hermes label has created a level of expectation that wasn't met by her latest offering. Nichanian has successfully deconstructed bourgeois dress codes to locate a seductive ease in deluxe dressing. Some of that lingered in shoes shown sock-less, or tie-less formalwear. Still, there was a nagging sense that Nichanian had backpedaled a bit.

It may have been simply that the darkness and the sobriety of the clothes didn't loan themselves to the bells and whistles of showtime. One of the themes of the collection was "look-alikes," which promised that things mightn't be all they seemed. Perhaps that meant something like the suit with the sheen of mohair that was actually cut from a wool-cotton blend. In which case, look-alikes wasn't exactly the kind of dynamic notion that could kick-start the whole shebang. It would have worked better in a showroom.

But in the end, such reservations are completely meaningless. Hermes has, after all, always been one of those collections that come alive in the intimate relationship between cloth and customer, and there'll be plenty of relating when these outfits hit stores next season.

He known for his passion to stay fit and healthy,  is all set to introduce a new style of jogging in his upcoming film 'Boss'.

Stating that the actor likes to offer something new to his audience with every venture, a source associated with the film reveals, "This time we thought of using trucks to make a jogging track, wherein trucks are parked in a circle and Akshay jumps from truck to truck and jogs."

The movie is an action comedy and the makers promise that the out-of-the-box sequences will be appreciated by the actor's fans. Looks like they've spared no effort to ensure that Akshay, who plays a kindhearted gangster in the film, showcases his style of action.

Luxury Hotels

Open Plan Bathrooms

The Ultimate Hotel Horror

http://style-variety.blogspot.com/
Add caption
It's a growing trend in Luxury Hotels, but how would you feel about spending a romantic weekend in a hotel room where the bath, shower and even the toilet, were on display? Is there anything worse?

Think of it as the drip-drip effect of interior design. What started as a trend for freestanding roll-top baths in hotel bedrooms, all louche and decadent, has now morphed into a trend for whole hotel bathrooms that are open plan, or have glass walls. Not only do they allow your travelling companion to witness your ablutions but, in some cases, they give a view to lucky passers-by outside. Worryingly, as a recent piece on Slate noted: "Like many hotel trends, the open-plan bathroom layout has spread to the home."

The first time I came across this phenomenon was at a hotel in Austria with design pretensions. I could just about deal with the idea that the bath and basin had glass walls opening on to the room, but the separate loo also had a door made from glass – frosted, at least, but not (if you will excuse the phrase) flush to the frame – so there was a gap of around a centimetre all the way around it. I couldn't risk this in the presence of my beloved, a man from whom I have no secrets apart from the one where I have led him to believe my digestive biology is different from every other human's and I produce only cute, inoffensive pellets (a bit like an owl), and so I had to use the loos in the communal areas. Judging by the queues, I wasn't the only one who had a problem with the in-room version.

Other hotels don't even bother with the frosting – in some rooms at the Renaissance Beijing Capital Hotel the lavatory is on show behind its clear glass walls. One suite at The Standard hotel in New York has an open-plan bathroom, right next to the bed, enclosed by floor-to-ceiling exterior glass walls (its public loos became famous for allowing people from the street a view). A huge number of luxury hotels have taken up the trend for glass walls, although some, such as the Ecclestone Square Hotel, which prides itself on being "London's most high-tech", will turn opaque at the touch of a button.

Juliet Kinsman, editor-in-chief of the boutique hotel specialists Mr & Mrs Smith, remembers her bathroom at the Hotel on Rivington in New York, which had a outside-facing glass wall: "I could see a guy standing in a building looking at me having a shower." For some hotels, an exhibitionist-friendly bathroom is a design statement; for others, she says: "It has a lot to do with the issues of converting properties that weren't traditionally hotels and adapting spaces to have a big, open-plan feel."

"Some people might find it extra thrilling," says Kinsman but many won't. "Quite often, when people who go away to fabulous chic hotels together for a weekend away they haven't been together for that long."

Where will it end if some hotels already have loos on view – will that ever become standard? Kinsman thinks not. "Well you're asking an arbiter of sexy hotels, and will it ever be sexy to watch someone go to the loo? I hope that will remain very niche."

The Pride Of Britain Awards always attract the biggest names in showbiz and this year's bash was the most glittering yet.

Now in their 15th year, the awards celebrate the UK's unsung heroes who quietly make their communities better places to live.

And helping to make them all feel like stars in London last night were a whole host of famous faces including Carol Voderman (who was on hosting duties), Nicole Scherzinger, Amanda Holden, Katherine Jenkins, Christine Bleakley, Sarah Harding, The Wanted and the Saturdays.

And of course it wouldn't be an awards bash without the usual array of fabulous (and not so fabulous) frocks. So who rocked and who shocked on the red carpet?

Visionary for Style

http://www.cheap-flight-4u.com
Add caption
Karachi’s infamous E-street could easily be called N-street. Amidst a plethora of salons, ‘it’ restaurants and high fashion boutiques, stand three salons run by stylist Nabila Maqsood.
Nabila’s specialises in hair, skin and nail treatments, N-Pro (right next door) is dedicated to make-up and N-Gents, a few paces away, is the first of its kind in men’s grooming. Holding court over the bricks and mortar, the expansive interior, classy furnishings and spotlighted mirrors, sits Nabila. May the best man  or woman  win, she smiles.

From my vantage point, the ‘best man’ for the moment can’t be anybody else but Nabila, and other stylists have miles to go before they reach the precedents that she has set. Over the years, Nabila has moved from one accolade to the other  maneuvering phenomenal celebrity make-overs, innovating with hair and make-up, representing renowned international brands within Pakistan, masterminding the styling of mainstream productions and of course, successfully running three salons in Karachi and another in Lahore.

What other Pakistani salons are open seven days a week, provide quality services for both men and women, at diverse prices, and are easily available at an appointment?, Nabila asks me, as she shows me around the monochromatic, very masculine N-Gents. It’s a smoke-friendly building replete with plush armchairs, private ‘executive’ areas, slick shower compartments and a Turkish bath. What I’ve created is efficiency. What she also always creates is a buzz, her recent mantle of ‘Creative Director’ for the Veet Celebration of Beauty show being a case in point. With Frieha Altaf  hitherto always a mainstay in Veet’s major events  suddenly out of the picture, there was talk that Nabila was now going to sidle into the game and try her hand at event management and PR. For the Veet show, I just did what I always do  oversee the hair and make-up and create a feel for the show, says Nabila, who begs to differ. Yes, I de-cluttered the show’s content and offered my vision for it but I have been doing the same for so many other events also, for the Lux Style Awards [LSAs] annually, and the Hum TV awards this year.

She adds, Jean-Paul Goude choreographed a huge parade in Paris back in the ‘80s, even though he was not a choreographer. He just had a sharp, instinctive vision for what works  so do I.  She’s also apparently not turning into a fashion designer. It is this very ‘vision’ that is behind her Midas touch in creating spectacular red carpet looks for celebrities. When Aamina Sheikh was chosen as the Best Dressed at the LSAs this year, she simply said that her clothes were given to her by Nabila, without revealing any particular designer’s name. I collect a lot of clothes, shoes and accessories when I travel, explains Nabila. A lot of them are model size. They are pieces that inspire me to create particular looks that I can use in my shoots. I have always stressed that anybody with a camera can photograph shoots for me, simply because the looks I create don’t need to be highlighted through photography.

They’re unique, from the styling to the one-of-a-kind clothes and accessories of the models, she adds. Aamina’s dresses, at both the LSAs as well as the Veet show, were from my collection of random purchases. She didn’t state a designer’s name because the clothes weren’t designer dresses  I had just picked them off random stores abroad. I specialise in hair and make-up and I wouldn’t want to delve into any other profession.

This specialisation, of course, also extends to bridals  a genre that Nabila once used to dismiss as ‘not fashion’ but which can now be seen reaping in revenues for her through N-Pro. Nabila now even makes the odd appearance at morning shows to discuss bridal styling and has regularly been featured at the PFDC L’Oreal Paris Bridal Week (PLBW).

Did the economic viability of bridal make-up bring about this change of heart? When I first started out, brides would come and ask me to make them look like a particular Indian actor. They reminded me of sacrificial cows who had no idea about what suited them, recalls Nabila. Now though, modern-day girls have minds of their own. They want to continue looking like themselves even after they have been styled. This is something I can work with. My salon creates bridal looks that focus on glowing, iridescent skin, distinctively created hair, with make-up kept to a minimal as opposed to being slathered on excessively. Her single-day showcases at PLBW have always been a success. Why doesn’t she extend her work to the other fashion weeks in the circuit? I would love to and would even do it for free but I haven’t been asked to, she says. The one thing I refuse to do is to bribe organisers so that I could provide my services to their show, the way other stylists do.

This year, she isn’t even going to be a part of PLBW, since she’s scheduled to leave for India. I committed to Ali Zafar ages ago that I would style the looks for the major scenes and songs of Tere Bin Laden 2. The dates clash with PLBW.

Hottest Trainer Contestant: Jessica Sullivan

Welcome to Racked Philly's search for Philadelphia's hottest trainer. Over the coming weeks, we'll profile eight smoking candidates who work at local gyms and studios. (Not only do they look hot in spandex, but if you take their classes, you might someday look nearly as good.) Then, once you've gotten to know everyone, we'll host a March Madness-style showdown in which you get to vote for your favorite (polls open Monday, August 19). Let the games begin!

Her mega-watt smile may put you at ease, but make no mistake: Workouts with Relentless Fitness personal trainer and Body Cycle Studio spin instructor Jessica Sullivan will put your body through the ringer. Dubbed "Jess' Hour of Pain," Sullivan's spin class at Body Cycle has amassed a loyal following of fitness buffs addicted to her high-energy combo of choreography, loud music, and a pace that's demanding without being intimidating (read: no yelling or barking from this trainer). "I'm always smiling and joking," she says. "It's supposed to be fun!"

But before climbing aboard stationary bikes at Body Cycle, Sullivan scaled trees in her rural PA hometown. "I grew up raising pet chickens and begging for a pet pig." An English degree from the University of Delaware (beauty and brains) led her to a brief teaching stint before the trainer transformed her passion for fitness into a full-fledged career.

Fantastic Ladies

Add caption
There are some incredibly talented footballers in the Premier League. However some of these footballers have some incredibly hot wives and girlfriends too. After some long hours debating and researching this topic, here are our results.
Also, since all of these ladies are fantastic, the rankings are in no particular order!

Add caption
1. Katsia Zingarevich
Although not the wife of a footballer, we thought Katsia Zingarevich should be included as the wife of a Premier League team owner. This lovely lady is married to Reading owner Anton Zingarevich, and had to be included into this list for obvious reasons.

Add caption
2. Natalie Suliman
Natalie Suliman is the girlfriend of Fulham winger Kieran Richardson. Richardson accredits her for turning his life around while it lay at tatters on the Old Trafford floor. Well we can certainly see why.

Add caption
3. Abbey Clancey
Abbey Clancy started dating Peter Crouch in 2006 and the couple married in 2011. Not much needs to be said about Clancy. If her husband wasn't a footballer, one could wonder if he would have ever met her. I think he sums it up pretty well himself.
"Had I not become a footballer, I think I would have been a virgin" - Peter Crouch
What a beaut!

Add caption
4. Helen Flanagan
Helen Flanagan is the girlfriend of Manchester City winger, and benchwarmer, Scott Sinclair. She rose to fame through Coronation street and recently went on 'I am a celebrity' to the nations delight.

Add caption
5. Tanya Robinson
Tanya Robinson is the wife of Sunderland defender Phil Bardsley. While Bardsleys career has not been spectacular the same can not be said about his wife. Absolute stunner in our opinion.

Add caption
6. Frankie Sandford
Although Wayne Bridge is playing for Brighton, he is there on loan from Manchester City which makes Frankie Sandford eligible for our list. Frankie shot to fame with 'The Saturdays' but also makes our list due to being incredibly hot.

Add caption
7. Sophie-Leigh Adam
Sophie is tied to Charlie Adam. Apparently she is the one who helped him decide to move to Liverpool from Blackpool, but we are sure that her looks could make him settle anywhere.

Add caption
8. Polly Parsons
Polly Parsons is the girlfriend of Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen. Although going through a bit of a recent slump on the pitch, he seems to be doing very well off it.

Add caption
9. Sam Cooke
Sam Cooke is the girlfriend of Manchester United defender Chris Smalling. Sam is an English Glamour model and Page three girl and has appeared in numerous British “lads mags”. She obviously has the looks for it.

Add caption
10. Lorena Bernal
Lorena Bernal is the wife of Mikel Arteta. The spanish midfield maestro has been with Miss Spain 1999 for quite a while and she definately matches his artistry on the pitch with her own artistry off the pitch.

Young Wins Miss World

http://www.cheap-flight-4u.com
Add caption
Miss World contestant from the Philippines, Megan Young, is crowned Miss World 2013 by Wenxia Yu, Ex-Miss World 2012, during the grand finale on Saturday night at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center in Bali.

Miss Philippines Megan Young was crowned Miss World on Saturday in Nusa Dua Bali, where the pageant’s final round was moved to following protests by hard-liner groups.  Euphoria filled the hall of the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center as Julia Morley, chairwoman of the Miss World organization and head of the judges, announced Miss Philippines as the winner of this year’s contest.

Young takes over the reign from Wenxia Yu of China. Miss France Marine Lorphelin, 20, took second place, while Miss Ghana Carranzar Naa Okailey Shooter, 22, came in third.  Failing to win the event hosted by her home country, Indonesian contestant Vania Larissa only made it to the top 10. She, however, won the Talent Show thanks to her magnificent voice.  I’m really looking forward to traveling the world to see what’s out there and to see different cultures. I want to see what we can do to help others and involve my fellow Filipinos in my efforts. The one thing I’m going to miss the most is Filipino food, Young told the press after the crowning.

Young was born in the United States but at 10 years of age moved to the Philippines, where she has since hosted television shows and appeared in films. The 23-year-old contestant, who studies digital film, also claimed a victory in the Top Model event.  Her mother Vicky Young was elated, saying after the crowning, If you want to travel around the world, go out there, explore, spread the good feelings in your heart, and help people. If that’s what you want, it’s OK. I’ll stay here, taking care of your brother and sister.

Julia Morley said Young was a worthy winner and expected that the new Miss World would be able to perform her duty of spreading good messages to the world.  Everybody did great, and I’m very proud of all the contestants. Young will do a good job for Beauty with a Purpose projects around the world, and she will definitely draw a lot of attention.

The 127 contestants that vied for the crown were introduced on Saturday wearing evening gowns shimmering in sequins, many of them with plunging necklines and slits up the leg.  Four candidates had dropped out earlier, mainly due to illnesses, said Syafril Nasution, one of the local organizers.  A day before the finale, the judges finished pouring over all of the tremendous work the contestants had done and announced the winners of five out of the six major challenge events.

The Netherlands’ Jacqueline Steenbeek made it to the top position of the Sports event while Brazilian contestant Sancler Frantz and Indian Navneet Dhillon won the Beach Fashion and the Multimedia challenges, respectively.  The victory for Beauty with a Purpose fast track was achieved by Nepalese contestant Ishani Shrestha. She established a project called Smile, in which she raised oral hygiene awareness in remote villages in her home country.

Meanwhile, Miss World 2012 Wenxia Yu, discussed her future plans now that she has passed on her crown. Although my Miss World tenure has ended, I do believe this will be the start of a new journey. Since my parents do not have an income, I will return home to find a job that suits me and help my parents, as a daughter is supposed to, she said.

Style of Raf Simons

Raf Simons was always going to bring a new sensibility to couture, but just how new was made dazzlingly clear with his show for Christian Dior today. Freedom was the word he came back to again and again, just as he did the other night when he was talking about his own men's collection. Freedom is an idea that generates a lot of lip service, but in Simons' case, to see a genuinely free thinker applying himself to a métier as bound by tradition as couture was thrilling. "It's difficult for a designer to give up control, because you have a specific idea of what you want to do," he explained after the show. "But it's so much more satisfying to give freedom to people and see what happens." Simons must have been satisfied by the results of the freedom he gave lens legends Patrick Demarchelier, Terry Richardson, Paolo Roversi, and Willy Vanderperre to interpret his collection. They each photographed the models in the morning, and their efforts provided a massive backdrop to the show, runway and screens cross-pollinating in a constantly shifting digital tapestry.

The freedom Simons really meant was the freedom to choose clothes and to choose how to wear them. It works best if there is a lot to choose from in the first place. The variety was something that leapt off the catwalk today. Haute couture is so closely identified with Paris that Simons' focus on what Dior meant as part of a global fashion culture was a bold departure. That's exactly how the clothes appeared: a different kind of dynamic in couture. Europe shared catwalk space with the Americas, Asia, and Africa: A revamped Bar jacket was followed by a sporty navy blouson; a strapless dress in tiers of spacey shibori (the Japanese process that produces that peculiar spiky fabric) preceded another strapless number vibrantly banded in shiny tribal colors. Dior himself was something of an internationalist (each collection, Simons reproduces two dresses by the old master as an homage), so it would have made sense to him. It should be said that there were some today who saw chaos in need of an edit. They missed the point: The mix was everything.

But what is haute couture without a client? From the start of his stint at Dior, Simons has been fascinated by the clients. They were almost a new species to him. And it wasn't just contemporary clients he studied. He's also been engaged by legendary Dior dressers of the past, like Millicent Rogers. "She brought a strong American attitude, almost cowboylike." Millicent's kerchiefs were a recurrent motif in the collection. Actually, the throat action was one way to pin down exactly where you were in Raf's world: a Masai neckpiece, a Parisienne wrap, a Shinto scarf. Geography helped drive today's show. The show notes mentioned flags, colorful, optimistic emblems of national identity. The palette, the blocking, the banding and striping captured all that.

The most remarkable thing in the collection may have been Simons' insistence on the normality of it all. We've said it before, we'll say it again: He is a true outsider in this industry, infatuated with the secret codes but sufficiently detached that he can create new codes all his own. "If we don't adapt to what women in society are now about, couture might disappear," Simons noted with typical Belgian logic. So what do we say? All hail the new couture.

Old-Style Furniture is New Again

Marrying their love of art and the home, husband and wife duo Matt Rink and Sarah Bader opened New Antiquity, a small-batch furniture design business based in Bethel.

Offering rustic, handcrafted pieces, the one-year-old business specializes in furniture as well as custom built-ins and renovation work.

Rink, 29, and Bader, 27, met in 2005 while taking art classes at Alfred University.

"We got out of school at a very strange time for the arts," Rink said. "Furniture is the perfect middle ground for us. It's very artful yet very functional."

After graduation, Rink worked on residential projects in lower Fairfield County with his father, a master carpenter with more than 35 years of experience, before the economy crumbled.

He then turned to public art projects funded through federal grants, like the 10-year 9/11 memorial at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport, while Bader worked in the visual department at Anthropologie of Westport.

After becoming engaged, the couple decided to design and craft furniture for their wedding out of reclaimed pallet wood. Later deciding to put the tables up for sale on Etsy.com post-wedding, Bader and Rink saw that they could turn their love of furniture design into a profitable business.

Getting wood from area barns damaged by storms in recent years, the couple handcrafts one-of-a-kind furniture, installations, outdoor structures and light fixtures.

"A lot of character has been lost in machine-produced furniture," Bader said. "People are trying to get more soul and human connection back into their home." They couple credits the resurgence of the do-it-yourself movement and the excitement people feel when they can go out and find something and repurpose it themselves to the success of their own business.

"Our generation grew up in a time of mass-production and it's as if they are making their own movement to get away from that," Rink said. "Now, you can reach out to someone locally and get something made for your living room or dining room for the same price that you would pay for something new." Rink said about a third of their business still remains on its Etsy.com site while the rest includes custom work for businesses, cities and residences stretching from Fairfield County to New York City.

Their local projects include an art installation made of maple tree branches on the wall of Baro restaurant in Fairfield; a large treehouse play structure in Southport Park; and a coffee table, floating bar and saloon-style doors at B Hive, a trendy office space in Bridgeport.

Utilizing older techniques and styles like saw-tooth shelving and wooden drawer sliders, Rink said they named their business New Antiquity as a nod to the methods used in crafting their pieces.

"Years ago there was a different level of craftsmanship. People spent time on things. They didn't want to build something, have you buy it and have it break a few years later so you need to buy a new one," he said.

New Antiquity's production time on tables is about four to six weeks.

"It's rewarding to know people can have a meal on our tables," Rink said. "It's about bringing people together, talking and exchanging ideas."

Miley Cyrus Performs at iHeartRadio Music Festival

The pop singer was a crowd favorite at the iHeartRadio music festival day event Saturday in Las Vegas. Before she hit the stage, the crowd of a few hundred chanted: "Miley! Miley! Miley!"

The 20-year-old emerged onstage in all white, wearing a tight corset and high wasted shorts that revealed some of her backside.

Her four-song set opened with the anthemic "We Can't Stop," where people onstage were dressed in flower, mushroom and rainbow costumes. She gyrated and slapped a dwarf-sized dancer's butt onstage. She followed the colorful performance with "Party In the USA."

But it was her emotional rendition of "Wrecking Ball" that was her set's highlight. Cyrus' mascara was running as she left the stage after the song and the performance comes days after she announced she was no longer engaged to actor Liam Hemsworth. She thanked the audience for helping the song top the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week.  "I couldn't have done it without all you guys," she said.

Cyrus broke a record with the debut of the song's provocative video, which features her in the nude. It became the fastest music video to reach 100 million views on VEVO.

The wild child singer said she knows "things I'm doing that's getting me into trouble and it's just me doing what my heart and soul is telling me what to do."  Everything she's done is "inspired by the music," she said.

Cyrus, who will release her new album "Bangerz" next month, also sang a cover of Melanie Safka's "Look at What They've Done to My Song." The guitar tune featured lyrics like "They think I'm half insane" and "I wish I could find a book to live in."  Cyrus has been added as one of the main performers for the second night at iHeartRadio's festival at the MGM Grand Arena, joining a list that includes Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, Paul McCartney and Drake. Elton John, Katy Perry and Chris Brown performed Friday.

Saturday's day line-up also featured Jason Derulo, Avril Lavigne, The Wanted, The Band Perry and others.

Stars Party and Prepare for Emmys

The best thing about party-hopping before Emmys?Everyone is in a great mood because no one has lost yet!
On Friday night, Vanity Fair and Maybelline kicked things off with the "MadMen" cast by throwing a party inside one of the bungalows at ChateauMarmont.
Jon Hamm, Jessica ParĂ©, January Jones, and Elisabeth Moss were just a few stars that stopped by to toast Emmys weekend. Inside, a heavily bearded Hamm hung close to his main squeeze Jennifer Westfeldt. The Emmy-nominated actor talked up the Soho House after party that he and Amy Poehler plan to throw for "losers"following Sunday's awards show.  As for Jones, you would never know the TV star was in the crossfire of this week's biggest tabloid story about Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus’s split (although sources close to the actress insisted to omg! she had nothing to do with it).

Jones looked carefree and happy at last night's soiree.Ironically, the Chateau happens to be where she was photographed leaving apre-Oscars bash with Hemsworth. Rocking a strapless mini dress, the 35-year-oldactress clearly didn't think twice about it and was all smiles and seemed to beenjoying her night out. For most party goers not affiliated with AMC's hit show, the first stop of the night on Friday was the Emmy Nominee Reception at Spectra by Wolfgang Puck at the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles.

"Modern Family" stars Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Julie Bowen, Eric Stone street, and Ty Burrell spent most of the time chatting with one another. With Grey Goose cocktails flowing, this gang seemed to be enjoying the party and the company – it’s rare to see a cast actually get along so well off set! Kit Harington, fresh off the plane from London, held down the fort for the "Game of Thrones" cast. The buzz at the party was thatHBO's drama could very well be the upset winner on Sunday.  Cat Deeley, Connie Britton, Matt LeBlanc, Michelle Dockery,Mayim Bialik, and Anna Chlumsky were among the nominees who all stepped outside for a class photo.  At about 9 p.m., many of the stars hopped into their waiting Audi cars and jetted over to Scarpetta at the Montage. Variety and Women InFilm threw their pre-Emmy bash at the swanky hotel in Beverly Hills, which brought out young Hollywood stars.

Inside,Jessica Szohr mingled with Jenna Ushkowitz and Michael Trevino, while Nikki Reed and Michelle Trachtenberg talked with friends. Alfre Woodard, Anna Gunn,Sarah Hyland, and Vanessa Minnillo were among the other party goers in attendance.

Street-Style Fashion Rivals Big Brands at Milan’s Fashion Week

Alongside the catwalk shows in Milan, there is another fashion week on the streets that is rivaling big name brands and is bursting with creative energy, self-promotion and pure exhibitionism.  It started out as a sideshow, but there are now more photographers outside than in, snapping VIP guests, young designers and social media celebrities  many of whom show up ticketless, armed only with ambition. Alessandro Somma used to work taking pictures on the catwalks of the world’s top fashion houses, but he got fed up and now earns his living outside the shows documenting the eclectic mix of street style.  It was a continuous repetition of the same things again and again. There was always the same battle to take exactly the same picture, he said, standing by a graffiti-covered brick wall outside the Fendi show. The street is becoming bigger and bigger, he said.
There are a lot of bloggers, a lot of photographers for big newspapers who do street, and for up-and-coming designers it’s an important chance to show off their production, he added.  Asked if there was an alternative street fashion week, he answered: Absolutely.

Just a few minutes before the Fendi show, paparazzi suddenly crowd the pavement around a young woman in a flowing dress and a Mary Poppins-style hat clutching a bead-encrusted box handbag. Her name is Cecilie Fabricius and for a few seconds she is suddenly famous. For me street style is art, so I like to dress up like a painting, she said, handing out business cards stating her profession as Multi Artist and explaining that she hangs out outside all the shows wearing her own work.  The attention quickly moves on to a new arrival on the street catwalk.

Alessia Sica, a doe-eyed brunette and young fashion blogger, is wearing Fendi shoes and a black-and-white pencil skirt that she made herself. This is a way of advertising ourselves, she said, as she preened. The stars of this other fashion week might be virtually unknown to the jet-setting fashion community, but they have tens of thousands of followers online who follow their every move and get a few style tips to boot. For Vogue Italia editor Franca Sozzani, the street show has become an integral part of every fashion week that can provide original insights. Times have changed, she said at a party in a palazzo, where actresses Blake Lively and Cate Blanchett could be seen milling.

It is all one thing now. Fashion week includes everyone, young people, older people, bloggers. Involving them is very important, she said.  They are youthful and they have a much more freer look than mine for example and so I am interested in their points of view, she said.  Within this fashion week tribe, many are a hybrid of model, photographer and blogger and some have almost street artist performances  balancing on impossibly high heels, pouting on Vespas, even hula-hooping for attention.  A select few have the means to travel to the global fashion industry hubs.

One example is Daria Shapovalova from Ukraine, who is photographed in an amazing array of elegant outfits and writes for a fashion Web site in Kiev.  I think fashion is becoming more like pop culture, people come, but it’s like they’re coming to a concert, said Shapovalova, wearing a dress by a Ukrainian designer with car prints.  She says she has a lot of interaction with the 100,000 Web sites who look at her Web site and helps them find inspiration on how to dress fashionably without having to shell out for the famous brands.

Nicole Richie's Style
See the Fashion Icon's Greatest Looks From the Past 10 Years. From the simple life to a fashion star!  We've watched birthday babe Nicole Richie successfully transition from a reality-TV party girl to a stylish mom of two—and it's safe to say the gorgeous starlet has become a full-blown fashion icon. From her bohemian Winter Kate collection to edgy House of Harlow jewelry to her successful judging stint on Fashion Star, Joel Madden's missus has tackled a number of tricky fashion endeavors, and she's passed every test with style and grace.

"We're dressing in little miniskirts and high high heels and we're going to milk a cow," Richie told E! News back in 2003 while promoting her reality-TV show The Simple Life with then-BFF Paris Hilton.

Kind of hard to believe, right?  But the sassy star quickly outgrew her Simple Life style, later adopting a more mature and sophisticated look, while bringing back the bob haircut and turning oversize sunglasses into the ultimate fashion trend.  "You know I am one to never say never about anything," she told E! News in 2010. "I said, 'Oh, I'm a mom now, I can never have a bob again' because it just sends the wrong message, and I cut my hair."

Whether she's rocking a beaded boho headband, a red carpet look or just a casual outfit for a day out with her kids, Richie is arguably one of today's ultimate fashion trendsetters, who is constantly setting the bar high when it comes to being impeccably dressed.  Heck, girl even looks good with gray hair, as she oh-so-elegantly proved at the 2013 Met Gala (how many people can pull that, off?!)

So take a look back at Nicole's fashion evolution in this E!'s Pop Culture Moment, and then hit the comments to tell us if you envy the 31-year-old star's stunning style!
